doordash's doubledash
more button
DoubleDash is a feature that provides DoorDash customers with a chance to add on items from other stores to their original order without having to pay an additional delivery fee.
This feature was redesigned, considering a new button replacement and tab layout- in order to provide efficiency to users as they browse store selections in a limited time window.

problem
In order to explore options DoubleDash offers, it has a carousel of buttons which include “search”, “recommendations”, and a series of merchants.
The problem users currently face is that in order to view all merchants available in DoubleDash, they must scroll endlessly through the carousel buttons during a limited time window- this often leads to higher drop-off rates and less utilization of the DoubleDash feature.

solution
A “more” button to was created to replace the “recommendations” button, which would simplify the user journey to placing an order, and likely increase DoubleDash order rates.
DoorDash prioritizes showing items that are recommended to the user based on their original order, and we maintain this recommendation system by generating a feed under the “more” tab by placing top recommended stores and items, while subsequently including all other stores offered in DoubleDash.

prototyping & interaction design
Wireframing the feature was straightforward as this change would only alter the button and merchant tab sequence. The rest of the layout would remain as is.
When it came to prototyping, it was clear that by removing the carousel tabs, scrolling would occur only in the feed itself. The top two recommended stores would be included as restaurant tabs, but more places could be found in the “more” button.
This leaves the user with 2 simple options of browsing stores: by searching, or scrolling under the "more" button.
