LEO research recruitment platform
A secure platform that helps medical researchers recruit, manage, and compensate reliable study participants while improving participant experience and study completion.
overview
A secure medical research recruitment platform designed to reduce participant no-shows and incomplete studies by giving researchers better oversight and participants a clear, trustworthy way to apply, schedule, and receive compensation.
Role: Founding Designer
Timeline: 9 months
Tools: Figma (Design + Make), Notion, ChatGPT

problem
Medical research recruiters struggle to find reliable participants. High no-show and partial-completion rates lead to wasted budgets, delayed studies, and poor data quality.
At the same time, participants face friction when applying to studies, managing appointments, understanding compensation, and trusting platforms with sensitive medical data.

goals
-
Increase study completion and participant reliability
-
Reduce compensation loss from incomplete participation
-
Build participant trust through transparent, privacy-aware workflows

research & insights
Methods:
-
Interviews with medical researchers and recruiters
-
Competitive analysis (e.g., Sanguine, ClinicalTrials.gov)
-
Pilot usability testing with Oxford University and NYU researchers
Key Insights:
-
No-shows and partial participation are the primary cost drivers
-
Recruiters lack tools to track and incentivize completion
-
Trust and clarity are critical for participant engagement
-
HIPAA compliance is a core design constraint, not a feature

design strategy
-
Mobile-first experience for study participants
-
Desktop-first tools for recruiters managing studies
-
Clear separation of responsibilities across roles
Constraints:
-
Small team (1 designer, 1 engineer, 1 PM)
-
Limited resources across mobile and desktop surfaces
-
Complex, multi-role workflows
-
Strict regulatory and privacy requirements
process
Aligned early with stakeholders on constraints, priorities, and success criteria.
Defined two primary user journeys:
-
Participant: discover → apply → attend → get compensated
-
Recruiter: create study → review participants → track completion → compensate
Iterated designs through regular reviews and usability testing with medical researchers, using feedback to simplify workflows and surface trust signals.
solution
Delivered a centralized platform that enables recruiters to manage studies, participants, and compensation while ensuring HIPAA-compliant handling of sensitive data.
For participants, the experience focuses on clarity, scheduling confidence, and transparent compensation within a secure environment.
outcome
-
Improved visibility into participant completion
-
Reduced risk of wasted compensation
-
Increased trust through explicit consent and privacy workflows
